For human resource professionals charged with finding the right people to keep a company competitive, the large and growing talent gap in the United States is no secret. In fact, nearly two-thirds of U.S. companies have positions they cannot fill—especially in technology, healthcare, manufacturing and other high-skill industries.1 The talent gap costs companies millions in lost revenue and administration and recruitment costs.
The U.S. work visa immigration programs—such as H-1B, E-3 and others—were created to help resolve the crisis and broaden the skilled labor pool. However, organizations without the extensive or specialized legal resources to manage the challenging application process find themselves unable to compete. This paper explores why the visa immigration process is ripe for disruption and how integrating—not replacing—legal experience with technology can help human resources play a leading role in helping their companies innovate and grow.
