HOW SOCI AMENDMENTS AFFECT THE ENERGY AND UTILITIES INDUSTRY
The recent amendments to the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act 2018 (Cth) significantly strengthen the security of Australia’s critical infrastructure. They affect electricity, water and gas assets as well as energy market operator assets. The government has new powers to protect critical infrastructure assets from sabotage, espionage and coercion. To do this, there is new responsibility on critical infrastructure owners and operators to develop and implement risk management plans.
